The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.167.45

नो वाच्यवाचकदृशा रहितो विचारः संपद्यते स च विकल्पमयेन सिद्ध्यै ।
सिद्धिश्च संभवति तेन विना न काचि द्दीपं विना निशि यथा नयनोपलम्भः ॥ ४५ ॥

no vācyavācakadṛśā rahito vicāraḥ saṃpadyate sa ca vikalpamayena siddhyai |
siddhiśca saṃbhavati tena vinā na kāci ddīpaṃ vinā niśi yathā nayanopalambhaḥ || 45 ||

There can be no reasoning, without an insight into the meanings of the significant terms and their significates; and it is consideration of both sides of the question that leads to our right judgment. Hence it is reasoning that leads us to truth, as the light guides us amidst the darkness of night.
