The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

जातिस्तु ज्ञायते तस्या विशिष्टा नैव केनचित् ।
कथं कुत्र कदा चेति न विज्ञाता सदैव सा ॥ १५ ॥

jātistu jñāyate tasyā viśiṣṭā naiva kenacit |
kathaṃ kutra kadā ceti na vijñātā sadaiva sā || 15 ||

No one ever knows its nature or genus, from his having never seen anything of the same kind, nor does any body know from when and where, it hath come to existence.
