The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

ज्ञानं यदेव तज्ज्ञेयं ज्ञेयस्यासंभवात्पृथक् ।
यथा ज्ञानमतो ज्ञेयं तनोत्यात्मानमात्मना ॥ ५५ ॥

jñānaṃ yadeva tajjñeyaṃ jñeyasyāsaṃbhavātpṛthak |
yathā jñānamato jñeyaṃ tanotyātmānamātmanā || 55 ||

The Knowable One is known to us in proportion to our knowledge of him; but not so to those that are ignorant of Him; as our knowledge increases, so the knowable soul spreads of itself over our souls.
