The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स्वयं स्वप्न इवाभाति मृतस्य परलोकधीः ।
तमेव पश्यति चिरं न तत्राप्यस्ति सत्यता ॥ ४० ॥

svayaṃ svapna ivābhāti mṛtasya paralokadhīḥ |
tameva paśyati ciraṃ na tatrāpyasti satyatā || 40 ||

The knowledge of the dead in regard to the next world, is likewise in the manner of a dream; and though this dreaming state of the soul continues for a long duration, it bears no truth in its nature.
