The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

भावाः पतन्तो धावन्ति तस्याधः सर्वतोङ्गकम् ।
यत्रोत्पतन्तो गच्छन्ति तदूर्ध्वमिति शब्दितम् ॥ ११ ॥

bhāvāḥ patanto dhāvanti tasyādhaḥ sarvatoṅgakam |
yatrotpatanto gacchanti tadūrdhvamiti śabditam || 11 ||

The living beings below the earth, are both moving downward or flying upward, as the beasts and birds on the upper side of it; and the region to which they fly is called the upper sky.
