The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

शिखी वार्यपि नादत्ते भूमेर्भुङ्क्ते बलादहिम् ।
दौरात्म्यं तन्न जाने किं सर्पस्य शिखिनोऽथवा ॥ १९ ॥

śikhī vāryapi nādatte bhūmerbhuṅkte balādahim |
daurātmyaṃ tanna jāne kiṃ sarpasya śikhino'thavā || 19 ||

The peacock instead of drinking water from the ground, snatches by force the snake from underneath; wherefore I am at a loss to know which of these to blame for its malice.
