The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.118.5

उत्कन्धरो विततनिर्मलचारुपक्षो हंसोऽयमत्र नभसीति जनैः प्रतीतः ।
गृह्णाति पल्वलजलाच्छफरीं यदासौ ज्ञातस्तदा खलु बकोऽयमितीह लोकैः ॥ ५ ॥

utkandharo vitatanirmalacārupakṣo haṃso'yamatra nabhasīti janaiḥ pratītaḥ |
gṛhṇāti palvalajalācchapharīṃ yadāsau jñātastadā khalu bako'yamitīha lokaiḥ || 5 ||

Seeing a white heron with its long neck and uplifted head, sitting silently and watching on the shore, the people took it at first for a hansa or hernshaw; but finding it afterward to catch a shrimp from the marsh water, they came to know it as a heron at last.
