The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

गण्डस्योपरि जातानां स्फोटानामत एव नः ।
परमेण प्रयत्नेन न मनो नाम यास्यति ॥ ८६ ॥

gaṇḍasyopari jātānāṃ sphoṭānāmata eva naḥ |
parameṇa prayatnena na mano nāma yāsyati || 86 ||

It is impossible for us with all our efforts, to turn our minds to the great God; because they are not of the nature of the divine intellect, but born in us like carbuncles on the goitre, for our destruction only.
