The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

सर्गस्त्वयमजातत्वादज्ञज्ञातो न विद्यते ।
न जातः कारणाभावात्पूर्वमेव खवृक्षवत् ॥ ९ ॥

sargastvayamajātatvādajñajñāto na vidyate |
na jātaḥ kāraṇābhāvātpūrvameva khavṛkṣavat || 9 ||

Creation having no other cause (but God himself), we know not how could ignorance find a place in it; just so it is impossible for a tree to grow in the air.
