The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.51.20

स्वप्नकाले स्वप्न एव जाग्रद्व्यग्रापरिग्रहात् ।
जाग्रत्काले जाग्रदेव स्वप्नः सत्यावबोधतः ॥ २० ॥

svapnakāle svapna eva jāgradvyagrāparigrahāt |
jāgratkāle jāgradeva svapnaḥ satyāvabodhataḥ || 20 ||

As the waking state appears as a dream in dreaming (i.e. when one dreams), on account of the oblivion of the waking state; so the waking state seems as dreaming, even in the waking state of the wise.
