The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.50.21

त एव दुष्कृतावेशाज्जडस्थावरतां गताः ।
घनजाग्रत्तया प्रोक्ता जाग्रत्सु घनतां गताः ॥ २१ ॥

ta eva duṣkṛtāveśājjaḍasthāvaratāṃ gatāḥ |
ghanajāgrattayā proktā jāgratsu ghanatāṃ gatāḥ || 21 ||

These again became degraded to the state of trees, on account of their unworthy deeds; and these are said to be duly waking, because of their want of sensibility even in waking state.
