The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.41.12

अस्वभावस्थितैवास्य कारणं कारणात्मकम् ।
असुषुप्तं स्थिता स्वापे स्वप्नस्येव सतीव सा ॥ १२ ॥

asvabhāvasthitaivāsya kāraṇaṃ kāraṇātmakam |
asuṣuptaṃ sthitā svāpe svapnasyeva satīva sā || 12 ||

The cause of causes, is the cause of unnatural (unquiet) movements of bodies; and it is the ever wakeful intellect, that remains sleepless in the sleeping state of nature, and is waking awakener of dreams in the swapnavastha or hypnotic state of man.
