The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
अस्वभावस्वभावोऽयं सर्वोऽहंतादिवेदनः ।
स्वभावैकस्वभावेन निर्वाणीक्रियतां स्वयम् ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
asvabhāvasvabhāvo'yaṃ sarvo'haṃtādivedanaḥ |
svabhāvaikasvabhāvena nirvāṇīkriyatāṃ svayam || 1 ||

Vasishtha continued:—It is absurd to find the sense of egoism or self personality, so deeply rooted in human nature (when the real ego of the divine soul, is known to pervade all over the universe). It is therefore right that you should extinguish this unnatural egoism of yours by correcting your own nature.
