223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.33.38

स्वभाववर्जं शब्दार्थाः सर्व एव सहेतुकाः ।
स्वभावस्य तु यो हेतुर्मुक्तिस्तदनुभावनम् ॥ ३८ ॥

svabhāvavarjaṃ śabdārthāḥ sarva eva sahetukāḥ |
svabhāvasya tu yo heturmuktistadanubhāvanam || 38 ||

All things expressed, in words have certain causes assigned to them; but the cause of their nature remains inexplicable, (whence nature—swabhava is said to be avidya or hidden ignorance). It is the cause of this prime nature (i.e. God), whose knowledge alone conduces to our liberations.
