The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.23.16

एते ग्रामैकशरणाः पल्लवाः स्पन्दभीरवः ।
अयथापथसंचारा हरिणा इव जन्तवः ॥ १६ ॥

ete grāmaikaśaraṇāḥ pallavāḥ spandabhīravaḥ |
ayathāpathasaṃcārā hariṇā iva jantavaḥ || 16 ||

These huts and hamlets shelter the cowardly cow-herds (Pallava Gopas) under them, and them that are afraid to walk in the paths of men, as the timid deer are averse to rove beyond their own track.
