The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

जीवो भवति दुर्घूणोऽमृत्यात्मैव यथा तथा ।
अत्यजन्ती निज रूपं चिज्जडं रूपमृच्छति ॥ ७ ॥

jīvo bhavati durghūṇo'mṛtyātmaiva yathā tathā |
atyajantī nija rūpaṃ cijjaḍaṃ rūpamṛcchati || 7 ||

As the insect that is born in the poison, does not die by the same; so the human soul which is produced by the eternal soul, is not subject to death, nor does it forsake its own nature, though it takes a grosser form like the vile figure of the poisonous insects.
