The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.6.5

जायन्ते च म्रियन्ते च केवलं जीर्णजन्तवः ।
न धर्माय न मोक्षाय मशका इव पङ्कजे ॥ ५ ॥

jāyante ca mriyante ca kevalaṃ jīrṇajantavaḥ |
na dharmāya na mokṣāya maśakā iva paṅkaje || 5 ||

We see the frail living beings springing to birth, and dying away at all times to no purposes, they are neither for virtuous acts nor their liberation, but are born to die only, as the gnats and ephemera of dirt.
