223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.5.3

शुद्धेऽल्पोऽप्युपदेशो हि निर्मले तैलबिन्दुवत् ।
लगत्युत्तानचित्तेषु नादर्श इव मौक्तिकम् ॥ ३ ॥

śuddhe'lpo'pyupadeśo hi nirmale tailabinduvat |
lagatyuttānacitteṣu nādarśa iva mauktikam || 3 ||

A little instruction even is as impressive in the pure mind, as a drop of oil sticks to the clean linen; but no education has any effect on the hard heart of fools, as the most brilliant pearl makes no impression in the gritty glass mirror.
