The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.4.45

अहमर्थे प्रविसृते संसारो ह्यनुभूयते ।
नान्तर्भूय परिक्षीणे लोचनस्येव तारके ॥ ४५ ॥

ahamarthe pravisṛte saṃsāro hyanubhūyate |
nāntarbhūya parikṣīṇe locanasyeva tārake || 45 ||

Egoism (selfishness) being extended too far, perceives the furthest worlds lying stretched before its sight; but the unegotistic or unselfish soul, like a sleeping man doth not perceive the nearest object, as our eyes do not see the pupils lying within them.
