The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अहंबीजश्चित्तद्रुमः सशाखाफलपल्लवः ।
उन्मूलय समूलं तमाकाशहृदयो भव ॥ १३ ॥

kumbha uvāca |
ahaṃbījaścittadrumaḥ saśākhāphalapallavaḥ |
unmūlaya samūlaṃ tamākāśahṛdayo bhava || 13 ||

Kumbha replied:—Egoism is the root (seed) of the arbour of the mind, with all its branches and leaves and fruits and flowers; therefore root out the mind with its very root of egoism, and have thy breast as clear as the empty and lurid sky.
