The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.91.12

यदा विवेकी पुरुषो भोगान्संत्यज्य तिष्ठति ।
तदा पलायतेऽज्ञानं छिन्ने वृक्षे पिशाचवत् ॥ १२ ॥

yadā vivekī puruṣo bhogānsaṃtyajya tiṣṭhati |
tadā palāyate'jñānaṃ chinne vṛkṣe piśācavat || 12 ||

When the self-resigned man, remains devoid of his desire for temporal enjoyments; he bids farewell to his ignorance, which quits him as the demon departs from the fallen tree.
