The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.90.22

अमितानन्दमुत्सृज्य सुसाध्यं यः प्रवर्तते ।
मिते वस्तुनि दुःसाध्ये स्वात्महा स शठः स्मृतः ॥ २२ ॥

amitānandamutsṛjya susādhyaṃ yaḥ pravartate |
mite vastuni duḥsādhye svātmahā sa śaṭhaḥ smṛtaḥ || 22 ||

He who forsakes the easy task of his devotion to God, which is fraught with infinite bliss; and betakes himself to the difficult duties of painful austerity, is said to make a suicide of his own soul. (The sruti calls them self-suicides.
