The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.87.21

न स्वभावेन फलति यथा शरलता फलम् ।
क्रिया निर्वासना पुत्र फलं फलति नो तथा ॥ २१ ॥

na svabhāvena phalati yathā śaralatā phalam |
kriyā nirvāsanā putra phalaṃ phalati no tathā || 21 ||

As it is the nature of kusa-grass never to fructify, though they bear the flowers in time; so my son, no action can produce any fruit without the desire of the main object.
