The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

पुरःस्थवस्तुभावेन रञ्जनां स्फटिको यथा ।
तज्ज्ञस्तथा नैति बोधाज्जीवन्मुक्तमतिर्मुनिः ॥ ११७ ॥

puraḥsthavastubhāvena rañjanāṃ sphaṭiko yathā |
tajjñastathā naiti bodhājjīvanmuktamatirmuniḥ || 117 ||

As the eternal hue of a gem, whether it be good or bad, is exhibited on the outside of it; and also as a crystal stone, however clear it may be, takes the colour of the outward object in it.
