The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.82.30

त्यज्यते विरतस्पन्दो देहोऽयं काष्ठलोष्टवत् ।
देहेऽपि जीवेऽपि मतावासेचक इवादरः ॥ ३० ॥

tyajyate virataspando deho'yaṃ kāṣṭhaloṣṭavat |
dehe'pi jīve'pi matāvāsecaka ivādaraḥ || 30 ||

The former body is left lifeless like a log of wood or block of stone, and such is the relation between the body and life; as that of a bucket and its water, which is powered out to enliven the plants.
