The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.81.81

जन्माङ्गबीजाङ्कुरवत्तथा दिवसरात्रिवत् ।
स्थितिश्छायातपसमा केवला सैतयोर्भवेत् ॥ ८१ ॥

janmāṅgabījāṅkuravattathā divasarātrivat |
sthitiśchāyātapasamā kevalā saitayorbhavet || 81 ||

Their production is by alternation as that of the seed and its sprout (of which no body knows is the cause or effect of the other). Their reiteration is as the return of day and night, (of which we know not which precedes the other). They last awhile and are lost instantly like the succession of light and shade.
