The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.81.31

अनवेक्ष्य पुरो मार्गममार्गमनुधावति ।
प्रकृतं मार्गमुत्सृज्य शरार्तो हरिणो यथा ॥ ३१ ॥

anavekṣya puro mārgamamārgamanudhāvati |
prakṛtaṃ mārgamutsṛjya śarārto hariṇo yathā || 31 ||

He loses sight of the broad way before him, and takes a devious course of his own; and like a stag pierced with arrows, flies from the beaten path and enters himself amidst the thickest.
