The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स बभूव सरोजिन्यां व्यसनी विसनालगः ।
क्वचिदेव रतिं ह्येति चेतो जडमतेरपि ॥ २४ ॥

sa babhūva sarojinyāṃ vyasanī visanālagaḥ |
kvacideva ratiṃ hyeti ceto jaḍamaterapi || 24 ||

He became enamoured of the lotus of the lake, and sat silent upon its thorny stalk on the water; for such is the fondness of fools, even for what is painful to them.
