The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीभगवानुवाच ।
इदं विद्धि महाश्चर्यमर्जुनेह हि यत्किल ।
पूर्वं संजायते चित्रं पश्चाद्भित्तिरुदेति हि ॥ १ ॥

śrībhagavānuvāca |
idaṃ viddhi mahāścaryamarjuneha hi yatkila |
pūrvaṃ saṃjāyate citraṃ paścādbhittirudeti hi || 1 ||

The lord said:—Look here, O Arjuna! The great wonder which is manifest in this subject; it is the appearance of the picture, prior to that of the plane of the plan upon which it is drawn.
