The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.55.5

आसक्तिमाहुः कर्तृत्वमकर्तुरपि तद्भवेत् ।
मौर्ख्यस्थिते हि मनसि तस्मान्मौर्ख्यं परित्यजेत् ॥ ५ ॥

āsaktimāhuḥ kartṛtvamakarturapi tadbhavet |
maurkhyasthite hi manasi tasmānmaurkhyaṃ parityajet || 5 ||

It is one's addictedness to an action that makes it his act, and this even when one is no actor of the same; it is ignorance only that incites the mind to action, and therefore this ignorance is required to be removed from it by all means.
