The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.44.23

त्यागेन वासनांशस्य बोधाद्वा प्राणरोधनात् ।
चित्ते निस्पन्दतां याते कुतः स्पन्दस्य संभवः ॥ २३ ॥

tyāgena vāsanāṃśasya bodhādvā prāṇarodhanāt |
citte nispandatāṃ yāte kutaḥ spandasya saṃbhavaḥ || 23 ||

The abandonment of every jot of desire, the suspension of respiration, and the exercise of intellection, will contract the actions of the heart and mind, and thereby prevent the rise of the passions and affections and of illusions also.
