Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.20.30

इयमारम्भसुभगा तरला जागती स्थितिः ।
भूयो भूयः परामृष्टा न च किंच न बाधते ॥ ३० ॥

iyamārambhasubhagā taralā jāgatī sthitiḥ |
bhūyo bhūyaḥ parāmṛṣṭā na ca kiṃca na bādhate || 30 ||

The course of the world, appears very smooth and pleasant in its first beginning; but upon mature consideration, it proves to be frail, fickle and false, as one goes on in it.
