The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.18.21

सर्वासामेव मातॄणामष्टावेतास्तु नायिकाः ।
आसामनुगतास्त्वन्यास्तासामनुगताः पराः ॥ २१ ॥

sarvāsāmeva mātṝṇāmaṣṭāvetāstu nāyikāḥ |
āsāmanugatāstvanyāstāsāmanugatāḥ parāḥ || 21 ||

These eight are denominated the Nayikai of leaders, of the whole body of Matrikas; the others are subordinate to these, and there are others again subordinate to them.
