Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स्पन्दते मरुताऽऽमृष्टा संसृतिव्रततिश्चिरम् ॥ २८ ॥

The lives of living beings are continually dropping down, like the withered leaves of trees, from the fading arbours of their decayed bodies, by the incessant breathing of their breath of life.
