The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.6.8

जडस्याज्ञस्य तुच्छस्य कृतघ्नस्य विनाशिनः ।
शरीरकोपलस्यास्य यद्भवत्यस्तु तत्तथा ॥ ८ ॥

jaḍasyājñasya tucchasya kṛtaghnasya vināśinaḥ |
śarīrakopalasyāsya yadbhavatyastu tattathā || 8 ||

The body is a dull mass of vile matter, it is ignorant of itself and its own welfare; it is quite ungrateful to the soul, that makes it sensible; therefore it well deserves its fate of diseases and final dissolution.
