The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

समूलकाषं कषति नदीतट इव द्रुमम् ।
यः सौहृदं मत्सरं च स हर्षामर्षदोषहा ॥ १७ ॥

samūlakāṣaṃ kaṣati nadītaṭa iva drumam |
yaḥ sauhṛdaṃ matsaraṃ ca sa harṣāmarṣadoṣahā || 17 ||

As the river uproots the big trees on both its sides, by its rapid currents and deluge; so doth the dispassionate man destroys the feelings of his joy and grief to their very roots.
