Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

उदेति तस्मात्संवेद्यं कथितं बीजमेतयोः ।
संवेद्यसंपरित्यागात्प्राणस्पन्दनवासने ॥ ६५ ॥

udeti tasmātsaṃvedyaṃ kathitaṃ bījametayoḥ |
saṃvedyasaṃparityāgātprāṇaspandanavāsane || 65 ||

This intelligence springs from Samvid or consciousness; by forsaking its universality, and retaining its individuality;and then it becomes the seed both of vitality and velleity.
