The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

संविदं बोधयंस्तेन चित्तबालः प्रजायते ।
एवं हि वासनाप्राणस्पन्दौ द्वौ तस्य कारणम् ॥ ५६ ॥

saṃvidaṃ bodhayaṃstena cittabālaḥ prajāyate |
evaṃ hi vāsanāprāṇaspandau dvau tasya kāraṇam || 56 ||

The infant mind being thus produced by the fluctuating desires, and the fluctuations of vital breaths, becomes conscious of itself, as separate and independent of its causes.
