The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अकर्तुः करणस्यास्य शक्तिः काचिन्न विद्यते ।
दात्रस्य लावकाभावे कर्तुं किमिव शक्तता ॥ ६० ॥

akartuḥ karaṇasyāsya śaktiḥ kācinna vidyate |
dātrasya lāvakābhāve kartuṃ kimiva śaktatā || 60 ||

Without the agency of an actor, the instrument of the mind has no power nor activity of its own; as the passive sickle has no power of cutting the harvest, without the agency of the reaper.
