The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.82.22

मिथ्यैव मे विवल्गन्ति नीरूपा नयनादयः ।
अलातचक्रप्रतिमाः सर्परज्जुभ्रमोपमाः ॥ २२ ॥

mithyaiva me vivalganti nīrūpā nayanādayaḥ |
alātacakrapratimāḥ sarparajjubhramopamāḥ || 22 ||

It is in vain for the organs of sense, to display themselves to view, like the twirling of a firebrand and the appearance of a snake in the rope; since they have no essence of their own, and are of no use without the soul.
