The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.74.70

कलंकयन्तःकलङ्केन प्रोच्यते हेम नान्यथा ।
भावासक्त्या समासक्त उक्तो जन्तुर्हि नान्यथा ॥ ७० ॥

kalaṃkayantaḥkalaṅkena procyate hema nānyathā |
bhāvāsaktyā samāsakta ukto janturhi nānyathā || 70 ||

The gold becomes impure by its inward alloy, and not by its outward soil; so a man becomes unholy by the impurity of heart and foulness of his mind, and not on account of the dust or dirt on his body.
