The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

जीवनाज्जीव इत्युक्तोऽहंभावः स्यात्त्वहंतया ।
बुद्धिर्निश्चायकत्वेन संकल्पकलनान्मनः ॥ ५४ ॥

jīvanājjīva ityukto'haṃbhāvaḥ syāttvahaṃtayā |
buddhirniścāyakatvena saṃkalpakalanānmanaḥ || 54 ||

It is called jiva or living from its animation, and also as the ego from its egoism; it is termed the understanding from its power of discernment, and as the mind from its will or volition.
