223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.71.13

आत्मेति व्यवहारार्थमभिधा कल्पिता विभोः ।
नामरूपादिभेदस्तु दूरमस्मादलं गतः ॥ १३ ॥

ātmeti vyavahārārthamabhidhā kalpitā vibhoḥ |
nāmarūpādibhedastu dūramasmādalaṃ gataḥ || 13 ||

This Divine Intellect is attributed with the imaginary title of Atma (—atmos or self) for general use; or else there is no occasion of the distinction of names and forms, with that being who is quite distinct from all.
