The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.63.13

रागान्निन्दास्तुती लोके रागश्च परिवाञ्छितम् ।
वाञ्छिते च महोदारं वस्तु शोभनबुद्धिना ॥ १३ ॥

rāgānnindāstutī loke rāgaśca parivāñchitam |
vāñchite ca mahodāraṃ vastu śobhanabuddhinā || 13 ||

It is according to our estimation of another, that we praise or dispraise the same; and we esteem whatever is desirable to us; but they are the most intelligent, that give their preference to what is the best, and of the greatest good is to us.
