The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.54.46

तल्लुलाव स्थलाब्जानां वनं बाल इव द्विपः ।
अपिबच्चाप्यसृक्पूरं वेताल इव वेगतः ॥ ४६ ॥

tallulāva sthalābjānāṃ vanaṃ bāla iva dvipaḥ |
apibaccāpyasṛkpūraṃ vetāla iva vegataḥ || 46 ||

But this clear light of his soul, was soon after removed by the rajas or worldliness of his mind; which devoured it as the young elephant feeds upon the red lotuses of the land, (sthala padma), and as Vetala, goblins lick up the drops of blood.
