The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

नास्ति शत्रुः प्रकृत्यैव न च मित्रं कदाचन ।
सुखदं मित्रमित्युक्तं दुःखदाः शत्रवः स्मृताः ॥ ५८ ॥

nāsti śatruḥ prakṛtyaiva na ca mitraṃ kadācana |
sukhadaṃ mitramityuktaṃ duḥkhadāḥ śatravaḥ smṛtāḥ || 58 ||

There is no one who of his nature is a foe or friend to another;but becomes a friend to one that is friendly to him, and a foe to him that deals inimically unto him.
