The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

शब्दशक्तिं गते श्रोत्रे वराके स्वार्थपीडिते ।
तदहंकारदुःखस्य निर्बीजस्य क आगमः ॥ ५६ ॥

śabdaśaktiṃ gate śrotre varāke svārthapīḍite |
tadahaṃkāraduḥkhasya nirbījasya ka āgamaḥ || 56 ||

You often hear that word ringing in your ears, though you feel it to be an empty sound as air, and cannot account whence this rootless word had its rise.
