The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तस्मिंस्तथा वर्तमाने कष्टे विधिविपर्यये ।
अशेषजनताशेषकल्पान्तसदृशस्थितौ ॥ ४० ॥

tasmiṃstathā vartamāne kaṣṭe vidhiviparyaye |
aśeṣajanatāśeṣakalpāntasadṛśasthitau || 40 ||

As adverse fate brought on this direful change on the devoted city;its horrified inhabitants remained in mute amazement; as on the last doom of nature.
