Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.35.7

नित्यस्पन्दमयो नित्यमपि देवात्सदागतेः ।
स्थाणोरप्यक्रियो नित्यमाकाशादप्यलेपकः ॥ ७ ॥

nityaspandamayo nityamapi devātsadāgateḥ |
sthāṇorapyakriyo nityamākāśādapyalepakaḥ || 7 ||

Though unmoving and immutable, yet it is as fleeting and changeable as the flying winds; it is inert as the solid rock, and more transparent than the subtile ether. "These as they change, are but the varied God." Thomson.
