The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अहं तृणलतागुल्मजालं रसतया स्थितः ।
उत्थापयामि चिद्भूमेः कूपोऽन्तरलतामिव ॥ ४८ ॥

ahaṃ tṛṇalatāgulmajālaṃ rasatayā sthitaḥ |
utthāpayāmi cidbhūmeḥ kūpo'ntaralatāmiva || 48 ||

The ego is the grass and all kinds of vegetables on earth; as also the moisture wherewith it grows them, like its thoughts in the ground of the intellect; in the same manner as herbs are grown in holes and wells by their moisture, i.e. The ego or soul is the pith and marrow of all substance.
